The AHPCRC is a Government-University-Industry partnership committed to helping maintain the Army and United States lead in HPC research and providing future generations with the advanced tools and training they will need.

The objectives of the Institute are to provide training and hands-on experience in the use of HPC, and to prepare those who choose to pursue graduate studies in technology areas dependent upon HPC.

JSU has played an important role in the success of the Center, having first joined the AHPCRC team in 1989.

JSU faculty, with participation from research fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, are involved in research projects in the following topic areas:

  • Fine Scale Modeling and Product Generation for Visualization of Dynamics and Phenomena
  • Chemical/Biological Defense
  • Environmental Quality Modeling

AHPCRC facilities at JSU include a computer laboratory consisting of NT workstations, an IBM RS/6000 SP, and a CRAY SV1ex. In addition, JSU AHPCRC researchers have direct access to other AHPCRC resources including a CRAY T3E-1200E and other IBM RS/6000 SPs.

Funding for support of the AHPCRC is provided by the U.S. Army, with funding for major equipment acquisition provided by the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program. The AHPCRC partners include Clark Atlanta, Florida A&M, Howard and Jackson State Universities, the University of Minnesota, the University of North Dakota and Network Computing Services, Inc.

Undergraduate science and engineering students have the opportunity to participate in an annual Summer Institute.
