Educating Future Computational Scientists and Engineers

Georgia Tech creates leaders in government, industry, and academia who define and implement computing, science, and engineering agendas. By offering both a master’s program and three different doctoral programs in computational science and engineering, Georgia Tech now offers a comprehensive postgraduate study program that explores the full scope of this expanding field.

The Computational Science and Engineering division grants or jointly participates in granting a master’s degree and PhD in Computational Science and Engineering. These interdisciplinary degrees are offered by the College of Computing, College of Engineering, and College of Sciences. Participating units from these colleges include the Computational Science and Engineering division; Department of Biomedical Engineering; and School of Aerospace Engineering, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, School of Biology, School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and School of Mathematics.engineering research The PhD programs in bioengineering and bioinformatics also are offered jointly with other colleges.

MS in Computational Science and Engineering

The computational science and engineering master’s degree curriculum imparts students with solid foundational knowledge and skills, and includes technical specialization courses that enhance a student's domain expertise. Advanced elective courses will enable students to specialize in a particular domain and develop technical expertise focused on their particular interests. The optional thesis portion of the program requires completion of an interdisciplinary research project. Exposure to other disciplines teaches students how common computational science and engineering concepts are utilized and applied in different domains. This approach promotes collegiality, creates a common vocabulary, and opens doors to interdisciplinary collaborative efforts.
